  The Mineralogical Collections contain app. 100.000 inventorized and catalogued pieces.

The catalogs consist of a main catalog of the systematical mineralogical collections as well as some partial catalogs for important and partial themes of the collections.

At the moment, the catalogs still exist as a card index. A digitalized version is not complete so far, for reasons of lacking time, money and staff.

At the moment, the complete catalog of the systematical mineralogical collection contains app. 2500 mineral species in alphabetical order, containing the following informations concerning the single pieces: 
  • mineral name (synonyms)
  • crystal chemical formula according STRUNZ
  • inventory number
  • locality (as detailed as possible)
  • location (cupboard no. - drawer no.)
  • number of pieces
  • remarks (habit, varietal name, mixture name; twinning, epitaxy, accompanying minerals, piece size, etc.)

The catalog is complete (except the remarks being fragmentary).





localities
A - Z

For the most part this catalog corresponds to the main catalog, in alphabetical order of the locality names, though. 

The localities and the containing mineral names are complete, all other details are  fragmentary and have to be looked up under their mineral names in the main catalog.






rocks
A - Z

The catalog of the rock collection, in alphabetical order of the rock names, give the following details for the single pieces:
  • rock name (synonyms)
  • inventory number
  • locality
  • trade name, if available
  • location (cupboard no. - drawer no.)
  • number of pieces
  • remarks (varietal names, habit, rough sample or polished plate, piece size etc.)

The catalog is complete concerning all existing polished plates (app. 650 pieces). Informations concerning the rough samples (app. 2000 pieces) still are mostly lacking.

Included are app. 1500 minerals, 330 rocks and 160 technical products, in alphabetical order, comprising the  following details:
  • name (synonyms, varietal names)
  • inventory number
  • locality (production firm, if it so happens)
  • location (cupboard no. - drawer no.)
  • remarks, descriptions
  • piece size

The informations are complete.

Printed and bound copies for the teaching staff and student tutors are available.

The pieces are included in the main catalog as well. Only good twinned crystals are listed here, in alphabetical order of mineral names. The details correspond to those in the main catalog, the twin laws in addition.

The pieces are included in the main catalog as well. Listed are expitaxies and other oriented intergrowths, in alphabetical order of the substrate minerals. Given details correspond to those of the main catalog.

The pieces are included in the main catalog as well. Listed are macroscopically clearly distinguishable pseudomorphs, in alphabetical order of the new phases. Given details correspond to those of the main catalog.

The pieces are not included in the main catalog. The collection of 650 pieces has been taken over by the TU Berlin in 1994. The structure of this catalog is the same as that of the main catalog.
